Last years Othello champions Yusuke Takanashi (Japan) and Jiska Helmes (Netherlands) will not be in Newark to defend their title. Who will be the new champion?
But this year we also have a lot of WOC debutants. Among them some very strong players like Hiroki Nobukawa (Japan), Tomoya Toda (Japan), Wachiraphan Huraphan (Thailand) and the 9 year old Arthur Juigner (France).
Another young debutant is Kelvin Yang, age 14 from Hong Kong. He played at the 6th Guangzhou open in August. It is nice to see so many young people interested in playing on the board tournaments.
Galo Carrera Hurtado wrote about Kelvin: "He is the first player to make a WOC with a complete loss of vision. He plays on a special board and he is the nicest player I have had the pleasure to meet"
