The top three players of the 2017 EGP after Prague and Athens were all present at stage 3 in Barcelona: Takuji Kashiwabara, Matthias Berg and Marc Tastet and as expected, all three qualified for the semifinal on Sunday.
There was a fierce struggle for the fourth spot at the semis between Roel Hobo and Tomáš Douda. A win for Tomáš in the final round against Marc Tastet whereas Roel lost against Matthias Berg. The EGP continued on Sunday with the semifinals and final. Semifinal 1:Takuji Kashiwabara killed Roel Hobo with a 60-4 win. Matthias Berg lost to Marc Tastet in a much closer game, 31-33.
BothTakuji Kashiwabara and Marc Tastet qualified to play in the final as they also won the second game in the semis. Playoff for 3rd and 4th place between Matthias Berg and Roel Hobo resulted in a 35-29 win for Matthias. Takuji started the final with a win, the second game in the final was for Marc. The third game seemed to end in a draw, but in move 52 Marc played b2 instead of A3 and the third game and the overall victory went to Takuji Kashiwabara. This year Takuji he finished third in Prague, won in Athens and now he added another EGP tournament victory to his impressive list of EGP achievements.
