Because some players withdrew from the tourney, no pairings could be done for the last rounds, according to the Swiss system.
The tournament organizers decided:
Roman Kraczyk proceeded to the playoff for 3rd / 4th place which he lost against Takuji Kashiwabara. The final was another EGP victory for Francesco Marconi. He won the final in 2 games against Ian Turner. This was Ian's first ever EGP final. Ian had reached the top 4 in EGP Brussels in 1997, when he lost the 3rd / 4th playoff to Karsten Feldborg.
That's nearly 16 years ago! Anyway, well done!! Ian's daughter Kali also played a very good tourney, she won 4 out of 9 games and took an equal-6th place.Anyone can still win the European Grand Prix, but Francesco Marconi now leads with 490 points, followed by Takuji (290 points and winner of the EGP in 2001, 2002, 2003, 2006, 2011 and 2012) and Marc Tastet (200 points). Four more tourneys to go, will the next European Champion be Italian or French? Next EGP is in Oslo and Martin Ødegard will no doubt be keen to make it to the final.... and win.
The tournament organizers decided:
- No further rounds will be played (after round 9)
- Ian Turner is number 1 after 9 rounds and has qualified to play in the final (for places 1-2)
- Francesco Marconi and Takuji Kashiwabara will play a best of 3 match and will be placed accordingly to the finals (either for places 1-2 or 3-4)
- Christina Mitsi and Roman Kraczyk will play a best of 3 match and the winner will play in the 3rd / 4th place playoff
