Now online the offcial European Othelllo Federation's European Grand Prix site.Comment by Francesco Marconi, Europe Othello Confederation representative at the World Othello Federation:
The ranking for 2015 is of course still empty, but you can see the 2014 and 2013 ranking. In the near future the rankings for all the others years will be added. For the recent years it is not a big problem to find the results but it gets harder as we go back in time. Please, I ask to everyone who has some data, especially for the very past years, to send them to me privately so I can fill the appropriate grids. Any suggestions to make the site more beautiful and useful are well-accepted. |

Yusuke Takanashi wins 91st Kanagawa Othello Open
Location: Kanagawa, Japan
Date: January 4th 2015 Tourney format: 6 rounds Three players finished with 5 wins: Yusuke Takanashi, Tetsu Satani and Daisuke Kamikura. Satoshi Koide recently interviewed Yusuke Takanashi (WOC in 2009, 2010 and 2012) for Othello Graph, you can find the interview (in japanese) here. Satoshi's final question, "Please tell us your future goals". I can tell you, Yusuke sets his goals very high, both for Japanese tournaments and the World Championship. He would like to win the WOC 2015 undefeated with 17 consecutive victories! I digged into the WOC files to see Yusuke's results in the years he became World Champion.

Daisuke Asou wins 11th Shinagawa New Year's CupLocation: Shinagawa, Japan
Date: January 3rd 2015 Tourney format: 7 rounds report by Takashi Yamakawa on FB January 4th Yesterday, I participated in the Shinagawa New Year's Cup. It is said that the victory of this tournament would bring further good results that year. This is obvious by seeing recent winners (2012: Yusuke Takanashi, 2013: Junya Ito, 2014: Makoto Suekuni) who also won the WOC or OWC that year. This year, the tournament is competed by 65 players. After round 6, Makoto was the only one with 6.0 points. However, in round 7, Makoto was defeated by Daisuke Asou. After all, 5 players including me were with 6.0 points and Daisuke won the tournament by the BQ. I suppose he would be qualified for the WOC this year! I was terribly beaten in round 6 by Makoto, and 3rd place with 6.0 points. The picture at the right shows a position from the match. I was white, and white to play. First, I considered C8B8C7G4G7E1B2. However, after that, black can cut the diagonal by A7, so I was not confident in this line. (Actually, this was the best and +4 for white.) So I decided to play C7C8B2G4G7 so that black cannot cut the diagonal by A7. However, black played D1 after that, and then there wasn't left a comfortable move for white. Thus gaining a tempo by C8B8C7 in the bottom edge was more important than preventing A7. |
