European Grand Prix 2013 - Paris

Takuji Kashiwabara is European Grand Prix Champion, Keita Ohmori wins EGP Paris
The last stage of the European Grand Prix 2013, Paris EGP tournament on Saturday August 24th and Sunday August 25th.
The big question was, ""Who will be the European Othello Champion 2013, Francesco Marconi who has been #1 since the first tourney in Prague, or Takuji Kashiwabara? This year the Paris event attracted the Japanese players: Takeshi Murakami (rated 2271), Keita Ohmori (rated 2235), Nobuaki Mitsuya (rated 2118) and Keiko Horiuchi. Keita Ohmori was number 1 after 11 rounds with 9 points and he played the final against Takuji Kashiwabara 1.5 - 1.5 and won because he had the best score after 11 rounds.
Who won the EGP 2013? I got news from Paris that Franceso Marconi was the winner, but the Othello News EGP spreadsheet by Tom Schotte showed Takuji as the winner. Things had become complicated because of a new rule, that not many people seem to know about. Ohmori as the winner of EGP Paris got 200 points and Takuji received 140 points. With the old rule in case of a draw in a final (victory, loss and draw), the two finalists have to share the sum of the points. That would mean that Takuji gets (200+140)/2 = 170 points and not 140. In that case Takuji would be EGP Champion. Finally on Wednesday August 28th we received offical word that in fact the 2013 EGP Champion is Takuji Kashiwabara.

Hello everyone,
after checking old emails, I can announce that the winner of EGP 2013 is Takuji Kashiwabara.
In 2006 a lot of players in Europe agreed to change the rules, but the change has never been effected. So the old rule is still valid and should be applied. It means that because of the draw final, Takuji and Keita Ohmori share the points for 2nd and 1st place. So Takuji gets 170 points instead of 140.
Sorry for the problems that the issue has created.
An official press release will follow in the European mailing list, even if it will take a day or two to prepare.
Francesco Marconi, August 28th
