David Parsons wins New York City Winter Tournament
New York, USA, 29 December
Rob Bishop and David Parsons both had 3 points after 4 rounds and met in round 5. David managed to win the game 25 - 39. The only game David lost was in round 2 against Jerry Hai, 43 - 21.

Tourney format: round robin 7 rounds 12th edition of this classic Christmas Tourney. Last year they played random openings and the tourney was won by Paolo Scognamiglio. Seven players played seven rounds round-robin and the two rookie, Vittoria Liguori and Roberto Orefice, played several rounds between them. Results per round on FNGO website. Niklas Wettergren wins New Year Othello XOTStockholm, Sweden, 29 December
Tourney format: 5 rounds, random openings A happy little social New Year's Tournament with random openings. A lot of fun and perfect for those who hate opening specialists :-) Niklas Wettergren won this XOT tournament, congrats! Ulf Bengtsson took home second place with the same number of WINS as Niklas but slightly fewer tiles. Henry Aspenryd came third, followed by Simon Ingelman-Sundberg, Veronica Stenberg and Bo Hellgren.

Roberto Sperandio wins Torneo di Natale

Tourney format: 4 rounds A good turnout of players at this Christmas tourney in Rome. Roberto Sperandio won all his games. George Ortiz played a good tourney too. He had 3/3 after round 3, but Roberto proved too strong for him in the last round 52 - 12. Also with 3 points, Paolo Scognamiglio, Alessandro Di Mattei and Francesco Marconi. Leong Chee Kit wins Singapore Othello Masters Series

Touney format: round robin - 7 rounds Time Control: 20 minutes per player per round The Singapore Othello Masters Series tournament is held at the end of each year featuring the top 8 ranked players of Singapore based on the World Othello Federation Ranking List, updated after the World Othello Championship. It was a very good tourney for Leong Chee Kit, he won all his games. |

After a double round robin we also had two double-round-robin 5-minute tournaments, in which I encountered very strong play from Phil and Roy. In the first tournament, Roy beat me and Phil lost on time against me while making move 60, in a winning position. In the second, Roy found a brilliant draw against me when he looked lost.

Patrick Aubroeck wins 12th Dutch Blitz OpenGouda, Netherlands, 15 December
Tourney format: double round robin + final + play-off 3rd / 4th place Patrick Aubroeck won the final against Roel Hobo. Jan de Graaf lost the play-off for 3rd / 4th place against Erwin van den Berg. Patrick is one of the 5 Dutch players who have been selected to play at the Othello World Cup in Tokyo in January. The others are: Nicky van den Biggelaar, Albert Kortendijk, Linda Praseptyo and Jiska Helmes. Jan de Graaf and Marcel Sneek have been invited as tourney officials. |
Emmanuel Caspard wins Tournoi de Noël

Tourney format: 5 rounds Cecilia joined the tourney as she was visiting Paris for a couple of days. She will also play at the OWC in Japan next January. According to Marc Tastet, the game between Céline and Manu was interesting, with a nice swindle by Céline after move 34. Céline made the last mistake: move 48 D8 was winning. More on FFO website. |

Jacques Ovion wins Montbard tourneyMontbard, France, 15 December
Tourney format: 5 rounds Qualification for the French nationals which will be held in September 2013 in Montbard. Jacques Ovion won this tourney at the age of 67, that must be some sort of record. Up till now his only national individual title was in the seventies; more precisely in the MJC (Maison des Jeunes et de la Culture) in South-West suburbs of Paris at Issy les Moulineaux in 1979. Dusit Chinwattana and Anuwat Wongwiwat win Sosuco Othello Tag Team Tournament
Bangkok, Thailand, 2nd December
Tourney format: 7 rounds This was the first time the Thai Othelllo Association organised this type of team tournament and it was a great succes. This is a very fun event with 2 teams of 2 players at the board. I am sure a tourney like this might help to attract more players to on the board tourneys. The team players take turns at the board. The purpose is to let strong players train weak players, but they have to do it before tournament. During the game, it's not allowed to talk about strategy. Final Result:
