Alessandro Di Mattei wins stage V of the Città di Roma 2014
Location: Rome, Italy
Date: June 29th Tourney format: 5 rounds, 23 players link to FNGO Facebook photoalbum Alessandro di Mattei was invincible this year at all five of the Città di Roma tourneys. The victory of the fifth and final stage was not easy. His opponent in the final round was Francesco Marconi and Allesandro would have lost that game if Francesco had managed his time better. So it was a second place for Franceso Marconi, together with Alessandro Tucci and Paolo Scognamiglio. A great result for Biagio Privitera and his son Francesco, they shared the 5th place. For tourney results of the other 17 players see the FNGO page. Alessandro Di Mattei won the individual 2014 competition with 100 points, second Michele Diodati ( 81 points) and third Paolo Scognamiglio (68 points). The 2014 team championship was won by the purple team: George Ortiz, Damiano Sperandio, Chiara Gigliucci, Cristina Terribili, Alessandro Tucci, Sofia Malatesta, Alessandro Ortiz and Alessio Cenci. |

Round 9 was a pre-final match between the two finalists. Arnaud Delaunay won this convincingly 43 - 21. In round 10 both Arnaud and Arthur lost, maybe they were saving their energy for later.
Arnaud Delaunay won the GPdeF in 2011 and 2012. In 2013 Marc Tastet won and Arnaud was runnerup. Arthur started the final well with a 30 - 33 win, but the next 2 games were for Arnaud. Congrats to both finalists!. |

PRASEPTYO Linda 31 - 33 SCHOTTE Tom 8th Zonhoven Open, round 5 |
Tom Schotte wins 8th Zonhoven OpenLocation: Zonhoven, Belgium
Date: June 22nd Tourney format: 7 rounds In the same weekend as the Dutch EGP there was a nice tourney in Belgium with 14 players. Tom Schotte sent me a message, "the curse of Zonhoven is broken". I had a quick glance at the Belgian archives and yes, in the past not a single Belgian player managed to win this tournament. Among the past winners there were a lot of Dutchmen, like Nicky van den Biggelaar, Roel Hobo and Jan de Graaf. This year it finally was Tom's turn and he finished the tourney in style with 7 points. It could easily have been only 6 points, if Linda Praseptyo had not made a mistake in their game in round 5. She made a wrong move 57 G1, maybe due to 12 spectators all gathered around the table to watch the game. Runner-up at the tourney was Albert Kortendijk with 6 points

Ever since I was almost completely whiped off the board at an EGP by Henrik Vallund in my early Othello years, I have had the greatest respect for this Danish player. I was sure he would make it to the finals and when I got the results in, I doublechecked to see if all was really correct.
For now, I will leave the picture as is. The winner of the Greve Cup will have to present a more fun picture, or else Henrik stays :) Karsten Feldborg won the tourney almost undefeated, except for 1 game in the final. This was his 14th Greve Cup victory, the first victory was in 1989. Runner up Erik Lund Jensen won the Greve Cup in 2001 in a final against Feldborg. A succesful tourney, double the number of players than in 2013 Jens Aagaard-Hansen leads the 2014 Danish Othello Grand Prix

Next stage European Grand Prix 2014 in Den Hoorn, Netherlands
The fifth stage of the European Grand Prix will be played June 21 - 22 on the beautiful island Texel that lies on the north coast of The Netherlands. So far we have 5 foreign players and a very disappointing total of 7 dutch players. The last Dutch EGP in Gouda 2012 had only 11 players where as when I started to play Othello, we had tourneys with as much as 60 players.
I know there is a nice tourney in Zonhoven, Belgium, on Sunday. I know that travelling to Texel takes a bit more planning, but here is your chance to battle with the best European Othello players. Moreover, you need not worry about accomodation, all is perfectly organised by the NOV. Jan de Graaf and Marcel Sneek can pick you up from Schiphol airport, IJmuiden harbour or Alkmaar trainstation in order to travel together to Den Helder for the ferry to Texel. COME TO TEXEL!!!!!!!!!
