Tetsuya Nakajima wins 15th All Japan Championship, Grand Othello (10 x 10)Location: Tokyo, Japan
Date: July 18th Winner: Tetsuya Nakajima Female Top: Yukiko Tatsumi Yukiko Tatsumi and Tetsuya Nakajima did not win a spot on the Japanese team for the regular Othello Championship. But today they qualified for the Grand Othello WOC that will held on Saturday, November 5th. Good luck to both! |
Yasushi Nagano wins 44th All Japan Championship
Location: Toko, Japan
Date: July 17th Tourney format: 6 rounds, semifinals and final Link: JOA website In 2015 the All Japan Championship was won by Makoto Suekuni with a second place for Daisuke Kamikura. Yusuke Takanashi finshed 14th last year. But this year Yusuke made it to the final. He won the All Japan in 2012 and was keen on winning it for the second time. But the final was won by Yasushi Nagano in a very close game that ended 33-31. Yusuke was in the lead untill move 44 but then....... that's the fascinating mystery of Othello. Third place for Tetsu Statani The Women's final between Jun Hada and Hisako Kinoshita (female champion in 2002 and 2004) was won by Jun Hada. Third place for Yukiko Tatsumi. Open Category final between Keita Yamazaki and Keisuke Fukuchi was won by Keisuke Fukuchi. More info will be posted as soon as available. |

Second place for Takanori Oshimizu who scored 4 wins, 1 loss (against Yusuke) and 1 draw (against Yasuhiro Ohuchi). A total of 18 players at this event. |

Date: July 9 - 10 Top 4 of 7 players after the first day: Yohanes Chitra - 6.5 Jerry Hai - 5.5 Jacky Fu - 5 Dal Yu - 5 These four played a double round robin on Sunday. Here is a quick summary of what David Rockwell claimed was "the most exciting day of Othello I have ever witnessed". Results day 2: Jacky Fu 3.5 Jerry Hai 3.0 Yohanes Chitra 3.0 Dal Yu 2.5 Jerry won the tie break with Yohanes. I have been organizing and directing Othello tournaments for 30 years now. At the National Open today, I announced my decision to call it quits as an organizer. It is my intention to continue playing tournament Othello for a long time to come. I want to thank everyone who has supported my events and my love of the game over the years. The Othello community is truly special. Thank you all. Lots of reactions of Othello players on this annoucement. To sum it up: David did a great job and the Othello community is grateful for all the work he did for USA Othello. I met David and his wife Linda at the WOC in the Netherlands in 2012 and they are really wonderful people.

At this tournament 36 players from Indaiatuba, Nova Odessa, Tietê and São Paulo. In the first round Lucas defeated Guilherme Lisboa (41-23). In the second round he (16-48) against Evans Fritsch. An easey (64-)) victory in the third round against Luan Costa (64-0).
