Othello News November 2011

David Hand wins Cambridge Christmas tournament

Picture
November 26th 2011

David Hand won the Cambridge Christmas tourney, with Borja Moreno Fernández coming a close second and David Beck third. Tough games but a very enjoyable tourney, according to Helen Starkey (Chair of the British Othello Federation).
The organisation decided to use random openings, and this led to great fun, everyone seemed to enjoy it. Imre Leader said it was often quite scary to be looking at an unfamiliar position at move 8 or so!

Final result:
6.5  pts: David Hand
6     pts: Borja Moreno Fernández
5.5  pts: David Beck
4     pts: Imre Leader

3   pts : Iain Barrass
2   pts: Helen Starkey
1   pnt : Roy Arnold

Nicky van den Biggelaar wins 11th Dutch Blitz Open

November 20th, 2011.

On a very foggy November day, 15 players came to Bussum for a blitz tourney. Even though the WON editor was there, you will have to wait for the official full standings. I was too busy to take notes. Blitz games are really a lot of fun, but hard work too.
Nicky van den Biggelaar, WOC 3rd place finalist, won the final against  Mark van Heere with 2 - 1.
Jiska Helmes beat Anja van Gimst in the ladies final. Jiska won another trophy, the one for best advanced player. There even was a trophy for best beginner and the WON editor was proud to take that rooky trophy home :).
