There has not been any decision made concerning the team for the WOC, but this will be discussed over the next couple of weeks.

Piyanat Aunchulee wins Thailand Othello Open

Location: Bangkok, Thailand
Date: July 26th
Tourney format: 7 rounds and final
Link: Thailand Othello Facebookpage

Piyanat reached the final with a perfect score of 7 wins. Piamrat Kraikokit defeated Sittisak Tantiprasongchai in round 7 and that win was crucial for his place in the final. It took Piayanat only 2 games to secure the victory, a perfect score with nothing but wins.
Tana Patcharaporn was the best lady of the tournament and as she finished in the top 4 of the overall results, there was no lady-final.

We look forward to see team Thailand perform at the WOC in Cambridge.

Arthur Juigner wins  Bussang tourney

Location: Bussang, France
Date: July 25th
Tourney format: 5 rounds

Another Othello Summer Camp was organised by the FFO in the beautiful French Vosges. There was a final tourney which was attended by 7 summer camp participants and 7 extra players. Arthur won all his games at this tourney. Marc Tastet commented that Arthur won practically all his games at the summer camp. A great second place for his younger brother Félix who moved up to the second place by defeating Thierry Lévy-Abégnoli 33-31 in the final round. Thanks to François Juigner we have nice pictures of the tourney to show you. It's not often that the boys' father also plays at tourneys. I dont remember ever seeing his name in tourney results, well done François with 3 wins! Another Juigner, Gaston,  finished with 2 points. I quessed that must be another Juigner brother and I was right. Gaston is the third brother, aged 11, usually not really interested in Othello, at least until Marc's course for beginners at Bussang.

Tourney results after 5 rounds:

1: 5 pts [241] JUIGNER Arthur (50030) {FRA}
2: 4 pts [232] JUIGNER Félix (50067) {FRA}

Thanks to Mr. Masaaki Iwasaki we have the full results of the 14th Grand Mejin-sen. Mr. Iwasaki also commented on the great achievement of Makoto Suekuni who won this Grand Othello title for the second year in a row, the day after he won the All Japan Championship.

Makoto Suekuni wins All Japan Championship 2015

全日本選手権

Location: Higashi-Shinagawa, Tokyo, Japan

Tourney format: 6 rounds, semifinals and final

Last year Kazuki Okamoto won his second All Japan title. Kazuki Okamoto defeated the 2014 Meijin and World Champion Makoto Suekuni (All Japan Champion 1997) in the final. At this 43rd All Japan Championship Makoto won the most prestigious Japanese Othello title back after 18 years, well done!
1997 was a very good Othello year for Makoto, he also won the World Othello Championship in Athens. He reclaimed that title last year in Bangkok, Thailand. True Othello Champions  live by the motto: I'll be back!!!

Runner-up at the All Japan was Daisuke Kamikura. Third place for Masaya Kasai. 4th: Hiroshi Matsumoto, 5th Kazuki Okamoto, 6th: Tetsuya Nakajima, 7th: Nobuaki Mitsuya, 8th: Junya Ito. Yusuke Takanashi finished 14th with 4 wins.

The Ladies Championship was decided in a final between Asuka Funatsu and Hisako Kinoshita (All Japan Ladies Champion in 2002 and 2004) and Asuka Funatsu won her very first All Japan Ladies Champion title. Congrats Atsuka!
Open Division Champion is Yusuke Sawaki. He won the final against Yasuto Shirota. Congrats Yusuke!

KASHIWABARA Takuji 53-11 TASTET Marc
EGP Athens 2015, final game 2

After a relatively modest start, Takuji is back in the race of the 2015 European Grand Prix Championship. He won both Oslo and Athens. As Francesco Marconi explains: Takuji sometimes hibernates a bit in winter, but he still wakes up in the spring!
Only Miroslav, Takuji and Francesco are still in the EGP race for 2015 (as Imre will not play in Paris). As Mirek does not go to Ghent, we expect a lot of suspense at the final tournament in Paris (29 and 30 August).

EGP Athens: this weekend July 4th - 5th

Miroslav Voráček is still in the lead even though so far he has only played in 3 EGP tourneys. Takuji Kashiwabara did not make it to the final in the first three tourneys, but he played a very good swiss round at the EGP Oslo (9.5/11) and he won the final 2-1 against Imre Leader. If he plans to hold on to the title of European Champion, he will have to win a couple more, but there are 3 more stages to go. Imre Leader (3rd) and Francesco Marconi (4th) really need a win to catch up.

Results and pictures will be posted on our special EGP Athens page.
