Othello World Cup 2014
The Othello World Cup started on Wednesday evening January 15th with a welcome reception, Othello Speedwave fun and the eagerly awaited pairing for first round. Earlier that day there was a meeting of the World Othello Federation, the Japan Othello Association and Megahouse. I heard it was a very good meeting and we all hope to receive news about the WOC 2014 by the end of this week. Visit our extra OWC interview page and read more about the OWC Othello Idols :) |
The OWC 2014 official website has a Gallery with excellent pictures by Ying Ke Sin. Take a look, the pictures are fantastic. Several are posted here on Othello News. Thanks to Ying Ke Sin and Singapore Othello Organisation.
On Table 1: Yuji Miyazaki against OWC 2013 winner Junya Ito
Check the list of players here. The tourney did not started well for the 2013 "King of Othello", he would have won 33 - 31 against Yuji Miyazaki but there was a flipping error and he lost 31 - 33 After round 3 we had 5 players with 3 points: Yusuke Takanashi (JPN), Kenta Tominaga(JPN), Makoto Suekuni(JPN), Takeshi Murakami(JPN) and Wun Leong Sky Chong (UAE).
I was kind of surprised to see Makoto's name in the standings. I had been told that he would be helping out with the tourney organisation and his name was added to the players page well after the tourney had started. Most likely he is a substitute for a missing player. Great to have him on board. Yusuke versus Makoto: Makoto recently beat Yusuke at the Shinagawa New Years Cup and at the Shinagawa Seaside Open but Yusuke was not to be beaten a third time in a row and won 39 - 25 in round 4. Top players with 4 points after round 4: Yusuke Takanashi and Kenta Tominaga. They played against eachother in round 5 and that game was a draw. The OWC results page initially awarded them both 5 points, but that was later corrected and both players got half a point. |
