The World Othello Championship (WOC) is held annually at the end of October or beginning of november.
It is sponsored by the Anjar company (directed by the Becker family, owner of the othello license worldwide), Megahouse Japan and the local distributor of the game. The location changes every year.
The tournament is three days long. The first two days are a 13 rounds swiss tournament to determine the top four players who will proceed to the finals on the third day. Each country can send three representatives, own citizens as well as residents, to the World Championship - unless there is an odd number of players, in which case the host country can enter a fourth player. Since 2005 each country is allowed to send one additional female player  in addition to the top 3 qualifiers (male or female).

There is an individual World Championship and a team championship. The individual champion needs to win through a best of 3 semi-final and a best of 3 final, but, to be eligible for this "top four", both BQ and departage may be needed.
The team champions are declared at the end of the second day of play based on the total number of wins in the swiss (if the host country has four players, only the top three scores are counted)
After the individual final, there is the victory dinner joining all the sponsors, players and table judges.
