The first W.O.C. was held in Tokyo, Japan in 1977 and had five players. Hiroshi Inoue was the first World Othello Champion! It have been many youth players in W.O.C. since the start. Now we hope that we can encourage youth players and Othello Federations all over the world to look forward for the World Othello Championship too! The 2016 World Othello Championships will be the 40th. That really is something to celebrate! Therefore, we are glad to announce that we are arranging a special opportunity for young players to attend to the W.O.C. 2016 in Mito, Japan and the W.O.C 2017 and 2018. It is up to each Othello Federation too arrange an W.O.C. qualification for their youth players. Therefore we would like to ask all of you Federations who want to progress Youth Othello events to do something extra over theses coming years! Extra youth player: Each federation can allow one youth player, aged no older then 14 during the year of each tournament, to attend to the three upcoming W.O.C.s located in Asia, Europe and PanAmerica. The player is not included in the 3+1 national team! The extra Youth player should also be registered latest June 20th, 2016, for the W.O.C. 2016, Mito, Japan. We see this 40th celebration extra spot as a good start to one day start up good events for our youth players and engage each federation to start up youth events! Do you have any questions about this; Contact the W.O.F. Office! Best regards the World Othello Federation
